BREAST CANCER- A SUBTLE MALADY.
AN OVERVIEW OF BREST CANCER.
Breast cancer is a type of cancer where cells in the breast tissue divide and grow out of control. About 80% of breast cancer originates in the mammary duct and 20% arise in the lobules. Cancerous tumors in the breast grow very slowly so that by the one is large enough to felt as a lump, it has been growing as much as ten years. Breast cancer can either be in situ or invasive. In invasive cancer, the abnormal cells in the lobules and ducts invade other tissues thereby further enhancing the spreading of this disease. At the early of this stage it adequately cured, however when this reaches the so-called advance stage the successfully is likely not likely. Carcinoma in situ however occurs when the pre cancer cells grow in the ducts and lobules without spreading to other areas. This peculiar condition is called DUCTAL CARCINOMA IN SITU (DCIS) but when the abnormal cells are not pre cancer cells (i.e. they do not necessarily develop into cancer cells) and they are found in the mammary lobules the condition is known as LOBULAR CARCINOMA IN SITU (LCIS).

BREAST CANCER IN WOMEN.
It is of course indisputable fact that about 99% of breast cancer cases occur in women; in fact breast cancer is traditionally thought to be a famine malady. This is obvious because the structure associated with breast cancer are mare patent in women. The tumors are however recognizable in the early stage of cancer, not in the late stage like what happens in women. Ironically, the disease in women is not easily felt possibly because the anatomy of the mammary gland.
Certainly benign (non cancerous) conditions often mimic the symptoms of cancer and often lead to confusion and psychological trauma in women in whom it is found. These conditions are: cyst, hyperplasia, fibro adenomas, and calcifications. These could however have effect in the lady’s cancer risk.

BREAST CANCER IN MEN.
Men breast cancer may be more aggressive than female breast cancer, and it’s usually defected when the tumors are bigger and has spread (-possibly because of it been confused with benign conditions) according to the largest study of female cancer ever conducted.
It is however rare resulting to about 1% of cases found. Men therefore need to be conscious of the subtle nature of the disease.

MEN SHOULD BE CAREFUL WITH BREAST TUMOURS.
One reason for such a late diagnosis may be that men assume they are experiencing non-cancerous conditions. E.g. gynecomastia, which is a growth of breast tissues that affect one-third of males at some point in life. Therefore men ware this off as one of those common breast excrescences hence not paying attention to this deleterious condition more likely than female patients to have estrogen receptor positive tumors. Men were also found to have late stage disease. They also had more spread of the cancer to their lymph nodes.
In the world of growing technology and a parallel rise in new maladies, the unexpected happens from time to time, the advice however goes to the male folk that the should be careful with conditions that were thought to be feminine-breast- cancer should be one of those perilous ailment.
